Durango and Animas High School Senior Portrait Photographer
I got to photograph sisters: Valerie and Jenna Brooks for their senior portrait sessions. Jenna goes to Animas High School and Valerie attends Durango High School. I photographed them (and their family) a few summers ago, and their older brother, Daniel, for his senior portraits, last year. It is always so nice to see them and I am so honored that I’ve been able to photograph them so many times. Valerie’s session was so cool because her aid, Lani, came along and I photographed Lani for her senior portraits my very first year of business here in Durango. Jenna’s session was cool because her mom, Jill (whom I adore), came along and we even had a make up and hair style change mid session. Jenna climbed trees, ran on walls, etc – so obviously it was a fun session! Make sure to read Jenna’s survey questions after the pictures!

It was really fun! The best part was running on the wall and trying to keep my face normal. Also being by the river was really fun and cool.

“Cirque Du Soleil” Styled Senior Model Photoshoot
I know I use the word “awesome” very often when describing my sessions, but this group model session was SERIOUSLY AWESOME! One of our Durango High School Class of 2013 Senior Models, Emily Muller, came up with the idea of a circus theme photoshoot. Obviously, I thought it was an incredible idea. It took me some time to get everything worked out – location, hair, make up, etc – but it came together perfectly! The carnival “just happened” to be in town (for the County Fair) and that seemed like the perfect backdrop for a circus/cirque du soleil theme. The amazing women at Hair Fusion, Mary Beth, Holly, and Lacey even came in on a Sunday to style the models. When my 5 girls walked in the studio door, I couldn’t believe how wonderful they looked! I know the team at Hair Fusion is awesome but they blew me away! And I loved the girls’ outfits too. Everyone working the carnival was really great and let us ride the rides for pictures. We got a lot of stares but a lot of compliments as well. Hope you LOVE!

I photographed Aiyana’s older sister, Zandele, for her senior portraits, a couple of years back (don’t they both have awesome names!) and I was so excited when Aiyana called to schedule her consultation and portrait session! I am always so honored when my clients come back for more! Hope you love these few of my favorites and don’t forget to read Aiyana’s survey Q&A’s after the images.

Bayfield Senior Picture Photographer
Lindsey is another of our Bayfield High School Class of 2013 senior Models. She came in last Sunday for her senior session and we had a blast. Matt explained to Lindsey during the session that I know very few jokes and they aren’t that funny anyway; so read Lindsey’s survey Q&A’s carefully – she is really funny! Hope you love these few of my faves!

My session was really fast and a lot of fun. My cousin came and made me laugh for my pictures. I discovered that I can change very quickly in the back seat of a car! I loved it and I really think the pictures will turn out good. I had a lot of different backgrounds but we stayed in one place the whole time!
What was the best High School moment so far or what are you going to miss most about High School.
I think I am just going to miss being a part of everything. Going to football games, homecoming, being in clubs and simple things like that.
What are your future plans after high school?
I will be going to college somewhere but I have not decided where or what for yet. My best idea so far is to go vet school but I’m still not sure.

We always post our favorite five images from each session, along with a short paragraph about the session as a sneak preview for our clients. We love sharing the images and thought it was time to share a little bit more about the subject in those images. So, we now have each client fill out a short survey after their session and include the answers with the images in the sneak preview so you can get to know the person in these images. I can’t resist sharing a little bit of my personal take on the session as well, so here goes:
Hattie has truly been an inspiration to work with and photograph. She brings so much more to the session than cute clothes (which she does bring as well). I love her personality and I loved the props she brought that made the session truly and uniquely hers. Here’s what she had to say:

My session was awesome! Allison is such a fun person to take pictures with, she makes sure that you never feel uncomfortable and are always having fun. The best part would have to be the pictures with the sheet music because it was such a cool idea that we came up with that I haven’t seen anyone else do and the pictures really showcased my personality and who i am.
What was the best High School moment so far or what are you going to miss most about High School.
The best high school moment so far for me was when I had my first call back in the musical Footloose as a sophmore. Getting a callback as a sophmore was very rare so I felt extremely accomplished and honored that I was given the opportunity. Footloose was also my favorite high school show that I’ve done. I’m going to miss my Theatre Troup 1096 and the family we have there and my best friend Emma Buchanan. Emma’s a sophmore this year and I will miss her so much its insane when I leave.
What are your future plans after high school?
At the moment I have none! But I do know that I will be going into performing arts for a career.

Durango Model Senior Photography
IsaBelle is another of our amazing Animas High School Class of 2013 Senior Models and her senior model session was amazing as well! We had a great time together; starting at Hair Fusion, of course. IsaBelle’s hair and make up was beautiful and she brought some really fun outfits. Normally, I recommend staying away from really bright “highlighter” colors, but IsaBelle looks so great in “highlighter coral”! We started by the Animas River, then played in the park, then photographed on, but did not climb, the longest set of stairs in town. We finished the session in the studio and I love the images we got! I hope you love these few of my faves!
Durango Senior Photographer at The Ranch
Hannah is one of our gorgeous Durango High School Class of 2013 Senior Models. She came in for her model session last week and we had such an awesome session! Hair and make up was great, as usual, by Mary Beth of Hair Fusion. Hannah had been told that The Ranch is a great place for portraits, which it is, so that’s where we went. I absolutely love it out there and we had such amazing light for Hannah’s session with intermittent sun and cloud cover. We shot until the sun went down and some of the last images we got, of Hannah standing in the creek in that evening glow, are my favorite! Hannah is such a natural beauty and she was so much fun to photograph. She was nervous but she didn’t show it in her portraits and I never could tell other than the fact that she mentioned it. Her outfits were totally my taste and so I loved them all. She works at Silk Sparrow, so of course she had some awesome outfits! This was another one of those sessions that I want to share more than five favorites because we got so many great ones, so I hope you love these few!
Durango Senior Portrait Photographer at Bakers Bridge
Randi came in for her senior portrait session last Friday morning and we had an awesome session! I LOVED her outfits (colors, shoes, jewelery, etc) and her beautiful mom, Monica, had lots of great location ideas. Randi is absolutely stunning and such a natural in front of the camera (even though she would deny both) – a photographer’s dream. We had a gorgeous overcast day and it only sprinkled a few drops of rain. We started up at Baker’s Bridge and Randi had a couple of outfits that were perfect for the color of the river up there. We played on the rocks, in the river, in the trees, and in the grass. Then we headed back to town to use my favorite old building draped in vines. We finished the session in the studio with some fun colors and patterns. Again, I picked way more than 5 favorites to share, then had to narrow it down to be fair. So, I can’t wait to share the rest and I hope you love these few of my faves!
Bayfield Senior Pictures on a Rainy Afternoon
Kayla McCoy came in for her Bayfield Senior Picture Model Session on a rainy afternoon last Monday. She is a BHS Class of 2013 Senior Model for us and her session was amazing! It poured down rain while Kayla was having hair and make up done at Hair Fusion (of course), but had slowed to a sprinkle, then completely stopped, for her session. We started with an umbrella, but only needed it for a few minutes. Kayla looked absolutely beautiful and we were all so excited for the gorgeous skies we got from the rain. The clouds were hanging low over the mountains so the backgrounds were stunning up at the Lion’s Den. After we shot a little bit downtown, we went up to the Lion’s Den, then finished the session by the river. The dramatic sky and beautiful soft light (enhanced with some off camera flash of course) made for some unique portraits, which I am so excited about! Kayla was so much fun to photograph and a great sport. She had been working 7 days a week because of the busy holiday (4th of July) so she was very tired. However; she was up for everything – even getting into the river. The gorgeous green water was perfect with her adorable coral dress. I can’t wait to photograph Kayla again and I hope you love these few of my favorites! Come back to see her full session and music video!
Paint Splatter at Allison Ragsdale Photography in Durango, CO
This sneak preview is of another of our fun group model sessions. And this one was hilarious! These 6 girls, Tara, Haley, Bonne, Rachel, Molly, and Aama are not only beautiful but are also really, really funny! I was laughing so hard during the session that my sides hurt. Then, as I was culling the images after the session, I was laughing so hard I was crying! They were such a blast to work with and such great sports. This was a paint splatter group session and I wanted to do this one a little differently than the ones we had done in the past. So, instead of going crazy right away with splattering paint, we started with face painting. We did end up splattering everyone at the end, then the group did some jumping and frolicking pictures – and those are the ones that made me laugh so hard. Frolicking is apparently even more difficult to do without looking silly than jumping. Thanks to all my models and I will be posting the rest of the images to Facebook next week.
