Laurel Schaffer sees things differently. To Schaffer, interactions with new people or places sparks the opportunity to create art. In the last fifteen years, Schaffer has explored the world of art through dance, interior and fashion design.

Claiming San Francisco and Colorado as her home, she finds that these two locations overflow with inspiration. As Chief Designer of Downright Red, Schaffer is able to bring her ideas to life and showcase an individual that is beautiful, powerful, and real. For this photo shoot, it was our model Christina Rinderle who inspired the limited edition dress “The Mayor.” Rinderle is Durango’s Mayor Pro Tem/City Councilor and is the perfect representative of a powerful woman. _DSC4050

Rinderle has a bachelor’s degree in environmental science from Purdue University, helped create one of the first native plants nursery and nature preserve for the Colorado River Indian Tribes, and serves on Durango’s city council – and can walk in 6 inch heels through construction rubble without a problem.

This photo shoot was so much fun to take part of. The contrast of the beautiful and intricate designs of Schaffer’s pieces with the jarring background of the courthouse and Eagle Block supply store, really brought to life Schaffer’s vision. Schaffer wanted this shoot to reflect the power of a hardworking and influential woman.
